Driveway Removal & Concrete Equipment Rental in Metro Detroit

Tearing out an old driveway or getting ready for a new slab? The hard part is lifting broken concrete, loading it, and hauling it away. C&W Equipment Rentals rents the mini excavator, mini skid steers and dump trailer that handle all three, for homeowners and concrete crews across Metro Detroit.

How a driveway tear-out goes

  1. Call MISS DIG 811 at least 3 business days ahead. Gas and water lines often run under driveways.
  2. Break the concrete: use a jackhammer or a rented breaker to crack the slab into pieces you can lift. We don't rent breakers, but most hardware rental stores do.
  3. Lift and load: pry slabs up with the mini excavator and load them into the dump trailer.
  4. Haul to a concrete recycler: many Metro Detroit recyclers take clean concrete for a lower fee than mixed debris.
  5. Prep for the new surface: dig out soft soil, spread gravel base, and grade it for drainage.

Watch the weight

Concrete is heavy, roughly 4,000 lb per cubic yard. Our dump trailer is rated at 14,000 lb gross, so a load of concrete fills its weight limit long before it fills the bed. Load concrete low and spread it out, and plan on more trips with less in each.

For concrete crews

Keep a mini excavator and trailer on site for a week for $1,150 total ($700 + $450), or call us about a monthly rate.

Delivery, hours and service area

Free delivery and pickup within 10 miles, then $5 per mile. We serve all of Metro Detroit, including Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties, plus Ann Arbor, Brighton and Howell. Open 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday, 7am to 2pm Sunday.

Concrete and driveway removal FAQ

What equipment do I need to remove a concrete driveway?

A jackhammer or breaker to crack the slab, a mini excavator or skid steer to lift and load it, and a dump trailer to haul it away.

Can a mini excavator break concrete?

A mini excavator can pry up and lift concrete once it's cracked, and can break thin or already-cracked slabs. For thick or reinforced concrete, break it first with a jackhammer.

How much concrete fits in a dump trailer?

Weight is the limit, not space. Concrete runs about 4,000 lb per cubic yard, so plan on a couple of yards per load in our 7-ton trailer.

Where do I take old concrete?

Concrete recyclers and some landfills take it. Clean concrete without dirt or trash usually costs less to drop off.
